Citizenship Through Permanent Residency Basic Requirements
To become a Canadian citizen through permanent residency, applicants must meet certain requirements:
- be at least 18 years of age.
- possess Canadian permanent resident status.
-meet the residency requirements for a time lived in Canada;
- possess adequate knowledge of one of Canada's official languages (English/French);
-Must not pose a security threat or have a criminal history.
-Must undergo the Canadian knowledge test to confirm the applicant's knowledge of some basic facts about Canada and Canadian citizenship.

- Been physically in Canada for at least 3 years (1,096 days) in the last 5 years before applying
- Filed income taxes( if required by the Income Tax Act) for any three taxation years that are fully or partially within the five years before applying
- Citizenship applicants ages 18 and 54 years
- Must meet language requirements, and pass the citizenship test;
- Must meet knowledge requirement in English or French.
